Casey Gray & Griffin McGrath
April 22, 2012
Danversport Yacht Club, Danvers

ABOUT THE COUPLE

How they met:
Casey and Griffin met at King Philip Regional High School in 2001 during their freshman year. Casey says, "The freshman semi-formal was around the corner and everyone was trying to figure out whom they wanted to ask to the dance." Griffin asked Casey at the end of a gym class, and not long after he asked her to be his girlfriend during track practice. Casey says, "The love story unfolded over the years. We were King Philip's Class of 2005 Class Couple."

How he proposed:
Casey says her 24th birthday, which was her first since graduating from college, fell on a Friday, and she had just gotten off of orientation as a new nurse when Griffin picked up her up at the hospital with flowers and took her to dinner with her parents. He later gave her a card that said they would travel to Nantucket the following day to celebrate. Casey says they spent the day exploring Nantucket, and when they arrived at Sankaty Head Lighthouse, Griffin said he was going back to the car to get a jacket, as it was windy. However, he came back with a gift bag. Casey says when she opened it, she found a sparkly seashell ornament that Griffin wanted her to keep as a reminder of their trip. Where it was windy, Griffin grabbed onto the ornament and told Casey to flip it over - inside the shell was a gorgeous engagement ring!

"My response was, 'Is this really happening right now?' Casey said. "Of course, I said 'Absolutely yes!' when he popped the question!"

The theme: Casey and Griffin started out wanting to have a beach theme because they were engaged at a lighthouse. However, they only incorporated the theme a bit, according to Casey.

"We wanted to keep it elegant, simply stated, with personal touches," she said.

The cake:
The couple had a four-tiered marble cake with chocolate filling with a blue ribbon around the layers and a fresh flower topper.

First song:
Casey and Griffin chose "Everything" by Michael Buble. "We love the music and love the lyrics! The meaning seemed to fit perfectly with our relationship," Casey said.

The menu:
Guests were greeted with champagne, passed hors d'oeuvres of beef wellington, scallops wrapped in bacon, meatballs, stuffed mushroom caps, bruschetta, cracker spoons and chicken tenders. Cocktail hour also included stationary cheese and crackers and vegetable crudite stations.

The sit down meal started with a fresh fruit cup and strawberry salad, then for dinner, guests had a choice of prime rib of beef or chicken picatta. Wine was poured for guests during dinner.

After the main meal, the couple's wedding cake was served and the gala sweets table was available for late night treats and to-go as favors.

What made the day unique:
A month before the wedding, Casey's health was in jeopardy due to her Chiari Malformation. A week before the wedding, she flew to Colorado for further testing and was unsure if she would need surgery or would be able to get in home in time for the wedding. Casey was able to get home in time making the wedding ever more of a celebration.

"Many people say rain is good luck on your wedding day. For us, our wedding dreams coming true no matter what the weather was a joyous occasion," Casey said.

Most touching moment of the day:
"Seeing each other smile as we met eyes while I walked down the aisle knowing that no matter how many curveballs life throws us, our love has, and always will, find a way," Casey said.

Honeymoon destination:
The couple began their honeymoon by spending six days at the Occidental Grand Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. They then flew to Puerto Rico and boarded a Carnival cruise, which stopped in St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten.
