Alycia Braga & Jonathan Miller
OCTOBER 20, 2007
The Meeting House, Tiverton, RI

ABOUT THE COUPLE

How they met:
At a Red Sox game

How he proposed:
In New York City at a tiny little Italian restaurant completely lit by candles.

Bride's occupation:
Photographer (weddings, events, portraits)

Groom's occupation:
Financial Analyst at ITG in Boston, MA.

THE CEREMONY

The ceremony:
The Friends of Westport Meeting House, Westport, MA

The gown:
My sister and I ventured to Filene's for the semi-annual "Running of the Brides" in Boston and it was a complete success. Strapless, A-line gown - Simple and elegant - ivory with a champagne colored middle. We made my veil with a piece of tulle we bought at a fabric store for $5!

The bouquet:
Yellow Cymbidium Orchards wrapped with twigs and twine. So beautiful!

The theme: No theme in particular but we were really going for a natural, organic feel to things. We kept things very simple and wherever we could, really tried to do things ourselves, which really added a personal touch. We tried to use things that were common in nature as far as colors, things, etc. Because we didn't have a bridal party, it was easy to less strict about colors (and there was a lot less drama!).

THE WEDDING PARTY

Maid of honor:
Sarah Anne Braga, Sister of the Bride

Best man:
Marc Steven Miller, Brother of the Groom

THE RECEPTION

The reception:
The Meeting House in Tiverton, Rhode Island - It's an 8 year old building that was built architecturally, keeping in mind what a true meeting house would have been like. Great balcony for photos and a place to put the music and the dance area itself was great. They even had a wood burning stove if it got cold. We were lucky and had a 70 degree October day. Also there are great farmlike doors that open up to a porch where we had the cocktail our and a great grassy area that displays local art.

The cake:
We had a pretty little 3 layer cake - we decided not to get a huge cake because so much of it goes to waste so we got enough for about 3/4 of our guests. It was a white cake with mocha frosting and the entire thing was covered in a dark brown, chocolate ganache. It was decorated with white birds, branches and small pink flowers. Simple and sweet..

First song:
When the Stars go Blue (sung by Bono and the Coors, written by Ryan Adams). We loved this song because it was romantic and if you listen to the lyrics closely, has so much meaning -…it even mentions dancing in your wedding gown.

The menu:
Blue Rocks and Ingrid Martins did an amazing job! For the meal we decided to go with two stations/buffet to allow people to mingle and to help themselves if they want more! The salad was mixed greens with yellow and red pear tomatoes wrapped into long cucumber riboons topped with a pomegranate vinaigrette. Main course included a mixed grille station with filet of beef tenderloin with mushroom Madeira reduction and grilled lime jumbo shrimp and sea scallop kabobs and the other stations w as a fun pasta station including 2 types of pasta, alfredo, pesto, sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives and artichoke hearts. For dessert we served our cake as well as lots of assorted desserts including mousse, chocolate chip cookies and eclairs.

What made the day unique:
We really made it special by including a few very special guests in our wedding day (music, ceremony, coordinating, etc.). It really made it personal, creative and unique. Really staying true to ourselves and in every little detail we based it on who we were and what we loved - that's what was most important to us.

Most touching moment of the day:
We had two: 1) Our ceremony - performed by a best friend. It really set the tone for the day. She spent hours preparing the ceremony - talking to us about our relationship and incorporating it all into a very unique and touching ceremony. In Massachusetts, anyone can become ordained for a day and perform wedding ceremony, legally. 2) Jonathan's (the groom) toast before we cut the cake. As my dad said, when he was giving his toast, all the women were wishing they were marrying him - it was very touching and beautiful.

Honeymoon destination:
Tulum, Mexico which is located about 2 hours South of Cancun.
