April 28, 2012
Lake Pearl Luciano's, Wrentham

ABOUT THE COUPLE

How they met:
Kathryn and Stephen first met when they were both students at Wamsutta Middle School in Attleboro. "We had different teachers, but it was a small enough school that we knew of each other without having formally met. In high school, we had a few classes together but we never got the chance to get to know really know each other," Kathryn said. "It wasn't until after we graduated from college that we reconnected and began dating."

How he proposed:
Kathryn says that Stephen planned a proposal at the restaurant where they went on our first date. "However, Stephen was so excited that he ended up proposing before we left the house!" she said. "At the restaurant, (since Stephen had said he would be proposing to me there) the staff was overly attentive waiting for him to pop the question. We finally had to tell the waitress that he had already asked because he couldn't wait for us to get to the restaurant."

Bride's education and occupation: Kathryn is currently working as a full-time nanny while she works on a M.Ed. She received her undergraduate degree in elementary education and sociology. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in special education.

Groom's education and occupation: Stephen received an undergraduate degree from Fitchburg State College in criminal justice and professional writing. He is a house manager for Growthway's.

THE CEREMONY

The ceremony:
The ceremony was held at Foxboro Universalist Church.

The gown:
Kathryn wore a strapless, white taffeta gown with a corset back, lace detail, crystal beading and a cathedral-length train. Kathryn's mother designed and hand stitched her veil.

The bouquet:
Kathryn carried a bouquet of pale yellow and white roses, white calla lilies, white lisianthis and white freesia.

Maid of honor:
Elizabeth DaSilva, the best friend of the bride.

Best man:
Philip Berdos, brother of the groom.

Bridesmaids:
Jaclyn Berdos, sister-in-law of the groom and Rebecca Smith, friend of the bride.

Groomsmen:
Eric Zeigler and Brendan Zeigler, brothers of the bride; Jeffrey Arena, friend of the groom; and Johnathon Berdos, cousin of the groom.

Junior Bridesmaid: Ashley Berdos, cousin of the groom.

Flower girl:
Paige Berdos, cousin of the groom.

Ring bearer:
Brandon Berdos, cousin of the groom.

THE RECEPTION

Number of guests:
100.

The reception:
The reception was at Lake Pearl Luciano's. "We fell in love with the Tree Top Room and its beautiful views of the lake," Kathryn said.

The theme: Kathryn and Stephen's used the navy and white throughout the wedding, while also incorporating some beach-themed details.

The cake:
Instead of a traditional cake, Kathryn and Stephen chose a cupcake tower of vanilla cupcakes with strawberry filling. Kathryn says there was also a small cake for the bride and groom to cut that had white frosting, swiss dots and a blue and white striped ribbon detail. The couple's cake topper, which featured a bride and groom, was designed by the groom's stepmother.

First song:
Kathryn and Stephen chose the song "A thousand Years" by Christina Perry. "We had a hard time choosing a song, then I heard this on the radio and thought it would be perfect. I loved the sentiment of the song and it seemed to fit us perfectly," Kathryn said.

The menu:
After a variety of delicious hors d'oeuvres and appetizers, the couple's guests were given the choice of pasta primavera or chicken Tuscany as a main course.

What made the day unique:
"During our pre-wedding meeting with our pastor, he asked us to write down five things that we loved about each other. Our pastor ended up reading our lists aloud during the ceremony. It was a great way to add our own personality to the ceremony," Kathryn said.

Most touching moment of the day:
Kathryn's grandfather was able attend the the wedding of his only granddaughter. "Before the wedding he had been in and out of the hospital and a few days after the wedding he was hospitalized again. It was truly a blessing that he was well enough to share our special day. He lost his courageous battle with cancer less than two months later," Kathryn said.

Honeymoon destination:
The couple went to Cape Cod for their honeymoon and hope to go on a special trip for their first wedding anniversary.
